This handbook is a resource comprised of 15 chapters; each chapter follows the same style of short paragraphs with headings so the reader can easily read and absorb the information. One may read through from cover to cover or consult a chapter as a reference book. It is well organized and edited. The subject matter is impressively broad--including chapters on epidemiological aspects of PTSD in children and adolescents, risk factors for PTSD, legal factors, the neurobiology of PTSD, its etiology and pathogenesis, gender differences, intergenerational links, differential diagnoses, a comparison of childhood versus adult PTSD, and children who have PTSD following the ravages of war. Dr. Silva, the editor of this book, wrote in his preface that the decision to write this book occurred prior to September 11,2001. There is little doubt that the information was greatly needed before that fateful day; there is absolutely no doubt that this information has been needed since.
